Aww this is wonderful!

I have some semi-ferals and they have come along way to trust me. 5 years I've seen them go from skittish shy kittens to turning inside out with affection at my feet. Still not crazy about my kids though (but I can't blame them!)

Cats really are like potato chips, hard to have just one ;-)

Good job. you have alot of patience. I am very happy you got them all fixed. Kittens/cats that a stray that is the utmost importance to fix so they don't continue to bread. I rescued 6. Yes, I said 6, from a stray in the neighborhood this past summer. it was very costly, bottle feeding them... weening them. I decided 5 weeks was a good age to take them. I felt bad taking them from their Mom and was unsure if I was doing the right thing. I thought it was a good age that they couldn't runaway from me yet still needed me to feed them. I miss bottle feeding them, it was a challenge and very expensive though...

Let me tell you, I got the Mom fixed right away and at 8 weeks the kittens were fixed and had homes. It's hard to find kittens homes, my last batch was much harder. It was beacuse I had aced such sweet dispostitons. Now they are happy and healthy and get this... all of them want to be carried around. One of them hugs people and 2 like to be carried on shoulders... It is hard to socialize. I never could've done it if I had a full time job. I had to play the radio so they got used to constant noise and cage them in a big cage so they would litter train/want to be out w/ us. But looking back we helped create the most content best lap cats you could ever ask for.

Good for you.

Very cute article. I have two cats of my own and fostered 5 kittens for a few weeks a few years ago. My cats did not appreciate it at all and it totally cured me of kitten fever... at least for a few months.

Every time I go to Texas for work (home is Virginia) I'm amazed at the number of stray/feral cats. The lab we work at now has two that are adopted outdoor cats. They give them food and the older one is pretty comfortable just hanging out. The newer one is shy and skittish.

In Texas last week we went to a BBQ place for lunch that had outdoor seating and there was a very young black cat there. She was very skittish around humans, running to hide under the building or in a corner... but she Loved BBQ! I wasn't sure if I should try to get her to eat from my hand or not and decided not to. I worried that other people who she interacts with might not be nice to her and I'm not sure if cats can understand that some people are nice and some aren't.

I guess these are the barn cats of modern times...
